Water Quality & Testing
Approximately 50% percent of the United States depends on private ground water for their basic drinking water supply. Along with human activities, water quality and quantity is affected by a combination of natural processes. Ground water tapped by private water wells is often of the highest quality. Water from such wells should be tested regularly, however, to ensure that the well is maintained in good working order and the quality of the water being produced continues to meet health standards. The Environmental Protection Agency of the Federal Government (EPA) and the National Ground Water Association recommends that owners of private water wells have their wells checked and tested by a certified and/or licensed contractor and get their water tested annually every year to ensure water safety. Water should be tested for the presence of coliform bacteria, nitrates, and anything else of local concern as part of an annual well maintenance checkup. Contact Well Water Security Alliance, state department of natural resources, or local health department for information on local water quality issues. You can also learn about local ground water conditions in your state by viewing state fact sheets from the Ground Water Protection Council. Get your water tested anytime there is a change in taste, odor or appearance, or anytime the system is serviced. Testing is also recommended after flooding or nearby chemical spills or contamination. With WelGardTM you have the peace of mind knowing your well is inspected and the water tested annually. © 2008 Well Water Security Alliance, Inc. |
